Welcome to EPA project
Capacity Building of Eastern and Southern African Civil Society
during the Economic Partnership Agreement Negotiations.
The free trade agreements currently being negotiated between the EU and the Eastern and Southern African region could threaten a wide range of livelihoods, and fundamental human rights to education, health, sanitation and economic and social development for large numbers of people.
In order to ensure that policy responds to the economic and social needs of marginalised and vulnerable groups, it is vital that Civil Society Organisations, including producer groups, are consulted in this process, something which has so far failed to take place. Through awareness raising activities, advocacy training and advocacy activities, this project will empower a broad range of CSOs in six African countries to defend their rights and promote their economic interests by feeding their concerns into the negotiation process.
This will allow these groups to communicate the economic and social challenges they face in building sustainable livelihoods so that trade policies respond to their needs.
